The leaves are turning here at Abby’s Lane and we’re all feeling the first hints of the Halloween season — the rumble in tummy for a stolen bite size Snickers, the compulsion to stuff the kids into punny costumes they don’t quite understand and the burning desire for pumpkin spice everything. In between trips to Target for bigger and bigger bags of trick or treat candy and forays into the wilds of the suburban pumpkin patch for just one darn picture where everyone is looking at the camera, we’ve taken some time to gather a list of our favorite seasonal items. Enjoy the cornucopia of just-a-little-spooky treats!
Block Toys from Maple Landmark
We welcomed some super-cute and not-too-scary block toys from Vermont-based Maple Landmark Wooden Toys this season. The Spinning Monster Mash-Up ($19.99) lets children make silly combinations of classic Halloween monsters. The Halloween Monster Stacker ($29.99) has three different blocks with face, body and spooky saying options. Both options are made in the USA and safe for even the smallest goblins. We also love that either can be used as Halloween decor as well: sturdy enough to play with, beautiful enough to display!
Exclusive collection from Smart Bottoms: The Horseman STOCKS 10/5/18!
Inspired by Washington Irving’s spooky classic “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow”, our collaboration with Smart Bottoms presents a beautiful foggy scene complete with horse silhouettes and smiling jack ‘o’ lanterns. The Horseman Collection ($11-$119.99) preserves the story’s chilling atmosphere while leaving out the elements that might be upsetting to our youngest fans. The collection is available in 2 all-in-one diaper options, 3 sizes of wet bags, 3 blanket options and bandana bibs so every Halloween enthusiast can find the perfect option for their family.
BabyLit Alphabet Book: B is for Boo
This charming board book stole our hearts last Halloween and we hope even more fans come to love it this season. B is for Boo ($12.99) from the BabyLit Alphabet series spreads seasonal joy with vintage illustrations and simple alphabet primer text. It’s sure to be a year-round favorite for your little trick or treater.
BabyLit: The Edgar Stories
Another offering from BabyLit that’s perfect for October storytime is The Edgar Stories ($9.99-$16.99). Inspired by the works of Edgar Allen Poe, The Edgar Stories follow the silly adventures of a raven named Edgar. Three titles (Edgar and the Tree House of Usher, Edgar and the Tattletale Heart, and Edgar Gets Ready for Bed) are available in either board book or full size picture book formats. These “poe-etic” treats will delight children of all ages.
Smart Bottoms On The Go Wet Bags
Cloth diapering families have sung the praises of the Smart Bottoms On The Go Wet Bag ($18) for years. But did you know that they make a perfect trick or treat bag? They are a great size, keep that precious candy protected from the elements and come in such a wide variety of prints that you’re sure to find one that coordinates perfectly with every costume. How about Sprinkles for a sweet cupcake or Doc for a doctor-in-training or Harmony for a cuddly panda? The possibilities are endless!
Doodlepants Leggings and 3D Hoodies
If you are looking for an adorable, comfortable costume for your toddler that will see use longer than the Halloween season, let us recommend Doodle Pants Leggings ($24.99) and Doodle Pants 3D Hoodie Sweatshirts ($39.99). Rainbow Unicorn, Blue Monster, Shark, Dino, Cow . . . so many fun options to choose from. Your little monster/unicorn/dino/animal will be warm and comfortable on Halloween night and throughout the year.
As the big night approaches, we hope you and your little ones are enjoying the fun of preparation and the thrill of the season. May your treats be stronger than your tricks and every little ghost, goblin and witch have a safe and happy Halloween!
