We started at cloth diapering our first at about 2 weeks – prefolds and bummis covers.

For our second, arriving any day, we’ll probably start around the 2 week mark again. Right now I’ve got a few Thirsties All-in-Ones and a few Bummis tot bots. Waiting to see what works best before I buy any more.

    Sara D says:

I am due in 6 weeks. I received some disposables already, so I will use those up first. Then I plan on cloth full time.

  44. 44
    Nicole D says:

We used Thirsties one size cloth diapers, an x-small Thirsties and an x-small fuzzibunz with our last daughter from the time she was in the hospital. The two x-small diapers fit her well but the one size were big for a while. I’ve gotten several newborn sized swaddlebees simplex diapers to use on our little man who’s on the way and I can’t wait to try them on him once he gets here!

  45. 45
    Nicole D says:

Woops, I mean BG not fuzzibunz. Sorry!

  47. 47
    Julie G says:

We did not cloth from birth with my first… we actually started around 10 months old. We plan to cloth diaper from birth with our second. My son’s first diaper was a GroVia AIO… the trim fit is what made me ok with cloth. Now I don’t mind the big fluffy butt anymore but at first it really bothered me

  48. 48
    Amy M says:

We used the disposables that the hospital sent home and then went to cloth at about 5 days old. Flat diapers and the tiny Bummis Super Bright covers worked well for us when he was that little. Now that he’s more mobile I like our pockets. We plan to do the same with #2 :)

  49. 49

Im trying to get my stock up for my newborn and am still trying to find little bitty diapers for her!

  50. 50

I didn’t start right off with cloth for our first, but I want to with the next baby.

  56. 56
    Ashley B says:

  57. 57
    Andrea S says:

We clothdiapered our daughter as soon as she got home from the hospital. The first cloth diaper we put on her was a tushy tie which we didn’t end up liking much.
We plan on clothdiapering our son from day 1.

  58. 58
    Jessica says:

I started cloth diapering with my second baby when he was 3 1/2 months old. His first cloth diaper was a Kawaii Snazzy Minky in Cow Print. Although I wish I had started cloth sooner, his cord didn’t fall off until he was 9 weeks old AND he was a huge baby 12 lbs 8 oz at birth. That was a big surprise! Hopefully I’ll get to have another baby and cloth diaper from birth, probably starting out with a newborn diaper rental program as long as the baby is under 10lbs.

  59. 59
    jennifer g. says:

we started cloth diapering with our third baby when she was 6 weeks old…oh how i wish we had used cloth diapers for the first two! i think the first diaper we used was a bumgenius flip.

  62. 62
    UmmAayah says:

for my first I didn’t learn about cloth diapering until she was about 5 months, and we started right away! for the next one I’d definitely like to use cloth from the start. great for the environment and great for our wallets. right now we only have bumgenius 4.0′s and flips in our small but growing stash… bumgenius being the first that we purchased/used.

  63. 63
    Meghan V. says:

I’ve had two that I cloth diapered as babies but not from birth so I haven’t bought any newborn diapers. However, with #3 I want to start right away. My first diapers were prefolds and plastic pants. I’m quickly updating though… my first modern cloth diaper was a Fuzzi Bunz.

  64. 64
    Carrie says:

My first was disposable, second cloth from 8 months, and third cloth a soon as we ran out of the free packs of disposables we got from the hospital. Our first dipes were bum genius 3.0, and I’m still using them after 2.5 years. :)

  65. 65
    Eleanor Mulford says:

Tried with my first – had no help or experience + bad NB AIOs so gave up immediately. Tried again at 20 months & now hooked. Will try again with the next baby.

  66. 66
    Mary Michaud says:

I didn’t start cloth diapering until my first was 3 months old, but I did start from birth with my second. Her first diaper was a Lil Joey, fit perfectly!

  67. 67
    Amanda N. says:

We didn’t cloth diaper from birth. We’d planned to use disposables for the first couple of weeks and then put him in cloth. I ended up hating disposables, so I put my son in cloth at 6 days old even though we only had one-size diapers and they fit so loosely he leaked out of them…but he leaked out of disposables just as much so we dealt with it until he grew enough to fit them properly.

His very first diaper was a GroBaby OS AI2 in Vanilla Snap. :-)

  68. 68

I started when my LO was 6 months..hope to have another one to star from day one!!

  77. 77
    Felicia R says:

With our first, we did not CD from the beginning, we started when she was around 3 months old. With our next one, we will start from day 1! I’m not sure what we’ll use yet but we have lots to choose from already and have some time to decide.

  90. 90
    Jodi J says:

I cloth diapered both of my boys from the time we came home from the hospital (at least as soon as the tiny newborn diapers fit) – they both started with Kissaluvs size 0. This next baby, due soon, will definitely be cloth diapered from the time she comes home – the newborn diapers available now are much better sized for a newborn. I think her first cloth diaper will be a Thirsties Duo AIO.

I did not start cloth diapering my kiddo until he was 2 months old even though I had done most of my cloth diapering research when I was pregnant. I knew I will have a lot of things going on and wanted to settle down a bit before starting on cloth diapers. I wish I waited a couple more weeks though, he managed to outgrow the infant size prefolds I bought in 2 weeks and I had to get all new stuff! Next time I might use a cloth diaper service in the beginning, invest in some AIOs, or pick up a few more small prefolds.

We used disposables that were given to us for the first couple of weeks. I was thankful for that being a first time mommy and dealing with the huge adjustment of having a baby, establishing breastfeeding, not getting any sleep, etc. I didn’t really want to try to figure out cloth diapering on top of all that. When we did start using cloth, we put him in prefolds with Thirsties and Weehuggers covers. If we have another baby, we will use cloth from the getgo.

I started cloth a few months ago & now my DD is 10 months old. I wish I had started sooner but was discouraged & didn’t have much for support. Then one day I said screw it & made the switch & never looked back, best decision ever! If I won I would give it to my good friend who is TTC & extremely interested & excited about CDing!

I started cloth diapering my son at 2 months old. He was born weighing 5lbs 14oz and the bum genius 4.0′s I had bought just would not fit my little guy. If I had of known he was going to be so small I would have done preemie prefolds and covers because the amount of disposables that little guy went through those first two months was horrible. We have been cloth diapering now for 2 months and would love to add to our stash!!
