    Large, thin blankets are a must. Too many commercially sold baby blankets are just too tiny. My favorite blankets were the flannel ones my SIL made for me. They were helpful from day 1 through toddler-hood.

    Essential oils, clothes, swaddles, lots of burp cloths, and a crib and/or bassinet for sleeping. A stroller that will attach to an infant car seat and an exersaucer or two can’t hurt either.

    If it isn’t your fist… a wrap. I got a wrap with my first and never used it. Thought it was pointless… With my second, i used the wrap every day!

    A place to sleep and swaddles…the swaddling blankets didn’t work for us…receiving blankets were too small/oddly shaped (if you had a rectangular one) and the aden+anais ones were way to large for our little baby. I had no idea what to do with all of the extra fabric. And while it worked in the hospital, once we got home, she was able to move her arms more and push through the blankets. So something with velcro was a must for us. And babywearing was very helpful.

    A carseat and stroller so you can leave the house! Baby carrier (sometimes a baby just wants to be carried) and our rock n play. Was so convenient for naps since my baby didn’t like the crib.

    Cloth wipes! I’m going to start making them for my mom cding friends – combine them with the squirt bottle the hospital gives you and a small we bag, and they are so much more effective than disposable wipes on newborn poop!

    If you will be driving a carseat is a necessity. My favorite need is a light afghan larger than the normal baby size. It is perfect for keeping the parent warm while during late night feedings or throwing over both caregiver and baby anytime.

    Swaddle blankets! We didn’t need them right away with our first, but eventually it was the ONLY way she would sleep for a few months. Aden & Anais blankets are PERFECT for that – super light weight, so you can use them alone in summer or with a warmer blanket in winter, and they stretch a bit so you can make the swaddle nice and snug :)

    I think depending on the age of the baby it can vary but a baby carrier is a handy one, some of those side snap tops for babies, a gentle and natural soap, a teething toy and rattle. a mesh feeder can be great too, specially for teething babes… oh and gripe water is amazing. :)

    Swaddle blankets! We didn’t have to swaddle our first immediately, but she got to a point at which being swaddled was necessary for her sleep! Aden & Anais blankets are the best for that, too – light enough for summer use, but can be paired with other blankets for cooler months. Also, they’re a little stretchy so they can make a snug swaddle for a wiggly baby! Love them.

    Sleepers. I had all these cute sleeveless and short sleeve outfits since I had a May baby, but since we were inside in the AC all the time, my son spent all day and night in cotton sleepers. Nail clippers are also a must. I felt like I was clipping every single day. Of course, burp cloths as well, and a nursing pillow.

    A reclined napper has been our savior after our newborn decided she hates the bassinet. She prefers to sleep more inclined.
