I hear swim diapers are all the rage right now! Whether you’re a cloth diapering family or not, swim diapers are for everyone. They’re easy to use and come in some fun and bright prints.
A swim diaper is meant to fit more snug than your traditional cloth or disposable diaper. This is because its main purpose is to hold in solids. A swim diaper isn’t meant to absorb liquids; it should repel liquids so your baby or toddler isn’t weighed down by added weight.
Swim diapers come in numerous styles. Some have side snaps, some have rise snaps, and some only have snaps on one side. Below is a breakdown of the swim diapers made by Thirsties, Smart Bottoms, and My Swim Baby.
Thirsties comes in 2 sizes; size 1 and size 2. These two options give you a weight range of 6-40lbs.
My favorite feature of the Thirsties swim diaper series is the wide range of size options when purchasing only 2 swim diapers. The multitude of waist snaps accompanied by the 3 rise columns allows for a complete and customized fit.
The double gusset design is a nice added bonus when worrying about solids escaping into a pool. It’s nice to know this feature exists.
The design calls for snapping on both sides. This means you most likely need to lay your baby/toddler down in order to get the swim diaper on them. On the flip side, this will make for less of a mess when you have a diaper full of solids needing to be changed. You won’t need to slide the diaper down to get it off. Simply unsnap the sides and remove
Smart Bottoms comes in 3 sizes; size small, medium, and large. These 3 options give you a weight range of 8-50lbs.
The Smart Bottoms Lil’ Swimmer diapers have the softest elastics and outer material of all three styles. I feel assured my little one will be comfortable when playing in the water when wearing a Lil’ Swimmer diaper. Even though the elastics feel soft against the skin, they have a nice bounce to them. This bounce gives you the fit you need without having rise snaps. This does mean there are 3 size options instead of 2 when compared to Thirsties swim diapers, but the comfort can be worth it.
Like Thirsties, the design calls for snapping on both sides.
My Swim Baby:
My Swim baby comes in 6 sizes ranging from size small to size 3X. These 6 options give you a size range of 9-45+lbs.
Having 6 size options to choose from may seem daunting, but I found the My Swim Baby diaper to have the best fit on my little one. They do run small in my option so if in doubt, I’d size up. The best feature of this diaper is how one side is permanently in place. Putting this on my wiggly toddler was easy.
All three options are great options and all three have something the other doesn’t. Since it’s recommended to have more than 1 swim diaper, why not try out more than 1 brand. They’re all winners.
